India seeks to protection status of 5
species at cities:
Conversion
on international trade in endangered species on wild fauna and flora (CITES) is
an international treaty to ensure that trade in wild animals and plants do not
threaten their survival. The species covered by CITES are listed in three
appendices, according to degree of protection they need.
India as world’s 13th most
water-stressed country:
A region
said to be under ‘water stress’ when the demand for the water there exceeds the
availability volume or when poor quality restricts use. ‘extremely high’ levels
of water stress means an average 80 percent of the availability water in the
country is used by irrigated agriculture, industries and municipalities every
year.
